3D Artist of the Month - Dori Wheeler

Please welcome our new artist of the month in the 3D category, Dori Wheeler.  Dori paints in the traditional style Pennsylvania Dutch and adaptations of European folk art such as German, Bavarian, or Norwegian Rosemaling.  She loves to find dented or rusted milk cans or other metal containers and transform them into one of a kind "works of art!"

She will have on display all of her work this Saturday, November 2, during the Gig Harbor Art Walk, and of course all month long at the Ebb Tide Gallery.  Please stop in and say hi.

Please welcome "DORI" the puffin, just completed by our October Featured Artist at the Ebb Tide Gallery, Kathy Thurston!!!  Remember this style?  It is Gongbi Style, an ancient art form developed in China during the Han Dynasty (206BC - 220AD).   Detailed brush painting on rice paper using Chinese Ink and water colors!!! Beautiful, right!

FEATURED ARTIST - KATHY THURSTON

Well, here's a little bit more about Kathy Thurston from the Ebb Tide Gallery.  Also, at the end of this post, please take time to watch Kathy's video about the process she goes through with most of her paintings.  It's fascinating.

Currently, Kathy is working on a painting of a tuffed puffin which we mentioned earlier..."DORI."  Her paintings are based on wildlife that she photographs primarily on the West Coast.  The puffin painting is from photos she took of tuffed puffins off the coast of Protection Island in Sequim Bay, WA, and at the Seward Alaska Sea Life Center this summer.  Kathy states "My art is an extension of my love for nature.  I hope that by seeing my art, one enjoys nature's beauty and is motivated to be outside and be immersed in nature and enjoy the gifts nature shares."  Kathy is inspired by John Muir, Thomas Moran, Rachel Carson and Timothy Egan.  These artists through their talent, have inspired the public and influenced government to preserve and protect the environment.  To reach Kathy, contact her at (253) 265-1712 or email kathythurston@gmail.com.

ART WALK WITH KATHY THURSTON

On Saturday, October 5th from 1-5, Kathy will be hosting a reception during the Gig Harbor Art Walk, and painting in her Gongbi style at the Ebb Tide Gallery.  Please stop down if you have time.  It will give you a great appreciation for her work and time, and also enjoy all the art presented during the Saturday Art Walk.

KATHY THURSTON - FEATURED ARTIST-OCTOBER

Kathy is an award winning wildlife artist who specializes in painting in the Gongbi Style-an ancient art form developed in China during the Han dynasty (206BC-220AD).  It is detailed brush painting on rice paper using Chinese Ink and water colors.  She learned this art form at a Tacoma Community College course, taught by local award winning artist Patsy Surh O'Connell.  Her works are known for their contemporary style, clear colors, and detail.  This new painting, Warrior Homecoming III is in the salmon series inspired by the removal of the Elwa Dam.

STUDIO TOUR WITH KATHY THURSTON

Kathy Thurston will for the first time, open her Gig Harbor art studio to the public on September 20th-22nd -  this coming  Friday, Saturday and Sunday, during the Greater Gig Harbor Open Studio Tour. Kathy is #2 on the tour map. For a map go to:  "http://www.gigharboropenstudiotour.org/
Hours are 10am to 5pm each day. Original art, prints, cards and tiles will be available.

Sarah Goodman will be participating in an art show coming up this weekend at her home and also presenting in a gallery in Seattle:  "I am part of an exhibit right now which runs until December 9 at Gallery Context in Seattle. 3D ARTIST FOR SEPTEMBER - SANDY HERRERA

Sandy recently joined the Ebb Tide Gallery and we are so glad to have her.  Her company is "Morningstar Fused Glass."  About her:

"I've been a jewely artist since high school.  For the last 13 years, I have concentrated my time on glass fusing.  I also work with semi-precious gems, make beautiful backpacks for women, as well as other mediums.  I have fun creating.

I've been a peninsula resident for 35 years.  I've learned the art of beading, picture framing, sewing, and gluss fusing to name a few while here.  I love living in the Northwest.  I give myself time to create beautiful kiln formed items you will cherish forever.  Whether you choose one of my items for yourself or as a gift, I hope you will fall in love with my creations as much as I have in making them."
